Falconer: Why I’m running again

To my neighbors in District 49A,
Two years ago, you elected me to represent our community in the Minnesota House. It’s been one of the greatest honors of my life.
My wife, Erica, and I have raised our three children here, so I know that political decisions are not abstract. They shape the schools our children attend, the healthcare families can afford, the water we leave to the next generation and whether every person in our community is treated with dignity.
During my first term, I worked to protect the Boundary Waters, strengthen our public schools and stand with Minnesotans affected by federal immigration enforcement. My bipartisan bill banning insurance companies from using artificial intelligence to deny or delay doctor-ordered care was signed into law. I’m proud of that record, but the work is far from finished. That’s why I’m running for reelection.
People talk about “Minnesota Nice.” To me, Minnesota Nice doesn’t mean quiet compliance. It means caring enough about our state and one another to speak up when our neighbors are mistreated, our rights are threatened or the places we love are put at risk.
In a second term, I’ll fight to expand MinnesotaCare, eliminate barriers to children’s mental healthcare and keep insurance companies from denying medically necessary care. No Minnesotan should go into debt or without treatment because they cannot afford it.
I’ll also fight the financial pressures leaving families working hard but falling further behind, including predatory credit-card interest rates and rising costs. I don’t support reckless expansion of water- and energy-intensive data centers. If Amazon or another corporation wants to build one here, they should pay the full cost. You should never have to pay Amazon’s utility bill.
And I’ll keep fighting to protect the Boundary Waters, defend clean water and wild rice, fully fund our public schools and make sure Minnesota stands up when federal actions threaten our communities and values. I believe government should work as hard for Minnesotans as they work for their families. I’d be honored to earn your support for another term.
